Master 100 GRT Great Lakes/Inland

Master 100 GRT Great Lakes/Inland:  Domestic

The Master Less than 100 Great Lakes/Inland credential allows its holder to act as Master or Mate on US Inspected and Uninspected Vessels less than 100 GRT on the Great Lakes and Inland waters, except towing vessels.

If the credential is endorsed for sail, the Mate may act within the area and tonnage restrictions of the credential on sailing vessels.

Service Requirements for Master 100 Great Lakes/Inland:

  1. One year of total service in the deck department of self-propelled, sail or auxiliary sail vessels.  To obtain authority to serve on the Great Lakes, 3 months of the required service must have been on Great Lakes waters; otherwise the endorsement will be limited to the inland waters of the United States (excluding the Great Lakes).
  2. Sail Endorsement: In order to obtain a domestic officer endorsement for sail or auxiliary sail vessels, the applicant must submit evidence of 6 months of service on sail or auxiliary sail vessels.  This required service may have been obtained prior to issuance of the master's license or MMC endorsement

Note that the current licensing system refers to this license as Master Not More than 100 GRT.  The proposed system rewords this license to read Master Less Than 100 GRT.
