The Chief Engineer Uninspected Fishing credential allows its holder to act as Chief Engineer within any stated horsepower limitations on uninspected fishing vessels. The credential's authority does not extend beyond fishing vessels.
For an endorsement as chief engineer, the applicant must have served 4 years in the engine room of vessels. One year of this service must have been as an assistant engineer or equivalent position.
Note that the service requirements do not include time under the authority of a license or a QMED.
Experience gained in the deck department on vessels on vessels of appropriate tonnage may substitute for up to 25% or 6 months, whichever is less, of the service requirement.
The examination for the Chief Engineer Uninspected Fishing vessels is described in the Deck Examination Guide Section 3.2.2.
