Assistant Engineer (Fishing)

Assistant Engineer Uninspected Fishing Vessels: Domestic

The Assistant Engineer Uninspected Fishing credential allows its holder to act as Assistant Engineer within any stated horsepower limitations on uninspected fishing vessels.  The credential's authority does not extend beyond fishing vessels.

Service Requirements for Assistant Engineer Uninspected Fishing Vessels:

For an endorsement as assistant engineer, the applicant must have served 3 years in the engine room of vessels. 

Experience gained in the deck department on vessels on vessels of appropriate tonnage may substitute for up to 25% or 6 months, whichever is less, of the service requirement.

The examination for the Assistant Engineer Uninspected Fishing vessels is described in the Deck Examination Guide Section 3.2.2.
